November 2025, according to current forecasts, promises moderate geomagnetic activity. What are magnetic storms, how they affect the body and whether it is worth preparing for them in advance — in the material of Izvestia.

Magnetic storms in November 2025: forecast

According to the estimates of the international space weather observation centers, November 2025 will be marked by moderate geomagnetic activity with several episodes of increased exposure to solar disturbances. Mild and moderate magnetic storms are forecast in a number of intervals — in the middle of the month and towards the end.

These local schedules are based on data on the flow of the solar wind and the probabilities of coronal ejections and periods of high-speed flow, and they can be updated as observations from spacecraft become available.

Experts note that the current solar cycle shows an increase in activity compared to some previous periods, which increases the likelihood of more frequent and intense space weather events in the coming years. This requires continuous improvement of surveillance systems and infrastructural resilience, as well as careful public awareness of possible risks and precautions.

What is a magnetic storm?

A geomagnetic storm is a strong temporary disturbance of the Earth's magnetic field that occurs when the solar wind and coronal mass ejections interact with the planet's magnetosphere. Such disturbances can last from several hours to several days and are characterized by an increase in geomagnetic activity indices (Kp, Ap), the appearance of auroras and an increase in the variability of the magnetic field on the Earth's surface.

In addition to the physical definition, gradation on the scale of impact is important for practice: from minor fluctuations that are almost invisible to technology and people, to severe storms that can cause satellite disruptions, reduced navigation accuracy, interference in radio communications at high latitudes and fluctuations in power grid systems under unfavorable conditions.

How magnetic storms affect humans

The question of the effect of magnetic storms on human well-being remains the subject of research and public debate.: Statistical and clinical studies have produced mixed results. Observations by various experts indicate that some of the population experience headaches, migraines, sleep disorders, and increased feelings of fatigue and anxiety during days of geomagnetic activity.

Medical experts recommend that patients with chronic cardiovascular and neurological conditions adhere to the recommended therapy during periods of increased geomagnetic activity and seek medical help if their condition worsens.
