Following his visit to Sweden, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was unable to achieve immediate deliveries of Gripen fighter jets. "Today we signed an important protocol of intent, which was a step towards a possible major export deal for Gripen — probably from 100 to 150 fighters — to create a new and very powerful Ukrainian Air Force [Air Force]," the Swedish Prime Minister wrote on his Facebook page. Twitter).

Kristersson also posted a photo of Zelensky sitting inside a fighter jet.

Earlier in the day, the President of Ukraine met with Kristersson. At a press conference in the city of Linpeping, where Saab is located, an agreement was signed to purchase Gripen.

The JAS 39 Gripen E is the latest version of the Swedish fighter developed by SAAV. This model has a more powerful engine, as well as a longer flight range and advanced electronics.

On September 30, the Swedish Ministry of Defense denied Ukraine's claim to supply Gripen fighter jets. He added that Stockholm is only considering the possibility of delivery.

In 2024, Sweden suspended plans to send its Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine after partner countries decided to supply American F-16s.
