Tornado hits French communes of Hermon and Aubonne
A severe storm and tornado swept through Val d'Oise, causing significant damage in several areas, including Hermont, Aubonne and Franconville. This was reported on October 20 by the French newspaper Le Parisien.
"This is a serious climatic phenomenon," the Val-d'Oise prefecture said.
According to the prefecture, one person was killed and four were seriously injured in the incident. The districts of Gambetta and Henri-Dunant Street in Hermon, as well as the municipalities of Margency, Andilly, Cormey-en-Parisie and Montmorency, were particularly badly affected.
As a result of the disaster, houses, roofs and cars were damaged. Power outages continue in Hermon and Cormay-en-Parisis. Firefighters, police and civil protection services are working in an enhanced mode.
An operational group was set up at the scene, bringing together various emergency services. Prefect of Val-d'Uaz personally went to Hermon to coordinate the work. A crisis unit has also been deployed in Aubonne, including the Simon-Weil Hospital, to accommodate the wounded.
Witnesses describe the storm as fast but extremely powerful.
"On the way back, I saw a tornado of leaves, and heavy rain fell on my car," Elizabeth, who witnessed the storm, said.
Many trees fell on the A15 and A115 motorways, causing major traffic jams. In La Frette-sur-Seine, traffic on the Seine coast was completely stopped.
Residents of the region continue to face the consequences of the devastating storm.
Earlier, on October 10, the Daily Mail reported that mega-storm Alice had hit the Costa Blanca in Spain, and several flights had been canceled. Many cars were under water due to the storm.
