Hungary refused to block the 19th package of sanctions against Russia
Hungary has no plans to block the 19th package of European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia. This was announced on October 20 by Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto.
"We don't have such a plan to block it. We managed to remove all those measures that would run counter to our national interests," Euractiv quoted him as saying.
In addition, Szijjarto stated that the EU's sanctions policy has failed because the conflict in Ukraine continues.
On the same day, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU plans to adopt the 19th package of sanctions against Russia this week. She also noted that the EU foreign ministers have not yet reached an agreement on sanctions against Russia and the topic has been postponed until the union's summit on October 23-24. The EU is also discussing the possibility of using frozen Russian assets for Ukraine's military needs.
Earlier, on September 12, it was reported that the European Union was finalizing the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. According to Callas, additional measures will be considered regarding the supply of Russian oil, tankers of the "shadow" fleet and banks.
