The Paris prosecutor's office has named two versions of the Louvre raid.
The Paris prosecutor's office is considering two main versions of the high-profile raid on the Louvre. This was announced on October 19 by Prosecutor Laura Becco on the BFMTV channel.
According to her, the investigation is working out both the version of a contract robbery and the version related to money laundering.
"Today, organized crime has huge funds and may seek to acquire precious stones for money laundering operations," said Becco.
The prosecutor stressed that the investigation is ongoing, and all possible ways of selling the stolen jewelry are under the control of the police and customs.
As reported today, several criminals broke into the museum, broke windows and stole jewelry from the exhibitions "Napoleon" and "French monarchs". According to Le Parisien, the attack lasted only a few minutes and was carried out by professionals — the attackers acted smoothly, used special equipment and carefully planned the escape route.
After the robbery, the broken crown of Emperor Napoleon III's wife Eugenie was found near the museum, which allowed the investigation to assume that the criminals could hastily leave the crime scene. At the same time, the largest diamond in the collection, the Regent, weighing more than 140 carats and valued at tens of millions of euros, was not touched by the attackers, which raised additional questions from investigators about the purpose of the raid and a possible order for specific items from the Louvre collection.
