The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has sent a survey to members of other sports federations on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to world competitions. This was reported on October 18 by NRK TV channel with reference to the federation's statement.

"The union has sent a letter to all its members. In the letter, the Association lists several reasons why it is important that these athletes from the Russian Federation return to skiing," the article says.

The text of the letter states that federations "must support all athletes and ensure that they are not used as tools in a political game," and also take into account that "an athlete cannot decide for himself where he is born."

It is clarified that the members' responses will be viewed confidentially, and the voting results will be used for internal discussions within the FIS and will not be published. The final decision on the admission of Russian athletes will be considered on October 21.

Russian athletes have been banned by the FIS from performing on the world stage since March 2022. At the same time, on September 28, it was reported that FIS wanted to return Russian skiers to the World Cup, but the initiative was not implemented. The "disparity in opinions" of the FIS Council members prevented reaching a common verdict after a lengthy discussion.
