A criminologist commented on the verdict of a member of a "gang of policemen"
The beginning of the 21st century in the criminal history of Russia was characterized by a fierce struggle for control over resources: markets, enterprises, territorial zones of influence. Criminologist Nikolai Modestov told Izvestia about this, commenting on the verdict of a member of the "gang of policemen" from Yekaterinburg.
"At the time of his criminal activity, Vladislav Sobol served in law enforcement agencies, which allowed him to accumulate knowledge about police working methods and use them in his atrocities in order to conceal crimes. Connections in the criminal world allowed the group to receive orders to eliminate competitors," the criminologist explained.
According to the expert, the struggle for shadowy highly profitable assets and markets reached the level of open conflict at that time, including contract killings and robberies.
"At the same time, criminal groups in Yekaterinburg, as well as throughout the country, began to actively integrate into legal economic spheres — trade, construction, real estate. This process was accompanied by the "protection" of the business, which was what the Sobolev group was doing," Modestov said.
In October, a court in Yekaterinburg sentenced Oleg Anuchin, a member of the gang of former police officer Vladislav Sobol, to 9.5 years in a high-security penal colony.
