The State Duma rejected the bill on panic buttons in taxis
The State Duma rejected a bill that proposed obliging taxi ordering services to ensure the presence of an alarm button in mobile applications. The bill was submitted to the lower house of parliament back in December last year.
It was assumed that in the event of a conflict in a taxi, the driver or passenger would be able to press the alarm button on the main screen of the booking service application. Pressing it would ensure "immediate transmission of a signal in the event of an emergency," according to the explanatory note to the bill.
The author of the document, Dmitry Gusev, first deputy head of the Fair Russia For Truth faction, told Izvestia that "the innovation will not only facilitate and accelerate assistance in critical situations, but will also become a powerful deterrent for offenders." Using the "red button" with one touch, it would be possible to call the police even in a stressful situation, he pointed out.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that in Moscow, the number of road accidents involving taxi cars decreased by 5.6% over the year. A total of 1,244 such accidents occurred from January to September.
