- The Russian Foreign Ministry demanded that the OSCE and UNESCO condemn the murder of military commander Zuev.
Moscow calls on relevant international organizations — the United Nations Organization (UN), UNESCO (the UN special agency for education, science and culture) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to respond to the murder of RIA Novosti war correspondent Ilya Zuev, which is part of their professional duties. This was stated on October 17 in a statement by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We demand from relevant multilateral institutions, first of all from the current Director General of UNESCO, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, as well as from other transnational human rights structures to fulfill their duties in good faith," the Foreign Ministry's website says.
The diplomat noted that comprehensive measures should be taken to prevent such crimes in the future, and the next atrocity of the Kiev regime should be condemned worldwide. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered sincere condolences to Ilya Zuev's family and friends. He also wished his colleague Yuri Voitkevich, who was seriously injured, to recover as soon as possible.
"We will persistently seek from international authorities a proper legal assessment of this premeditated murder and other crimes of the Kiev junta against civilians," Zakharova added.
Earlier that day, it became known that RIA Novosti military commander Zuev was killed in the Zaporozhye region as a result of a Ukrainian drone strike. Wojtkiewicz was also seriously wounded. A criminal case has been opened into the murder and obstruction of the work of journalists. The Investigative Committee of Russia is taking measures to identify those involved in this crime among the armed formations of Ukraine (VFU), and subsequently bring them to criminal responsibility.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that those responsible for the murder of war correspondent Zuev and the wounding of his colleague Voitkevich should be punished.
