The Kingdom of Morocco is one of Russia's most important partners in Africa, with which Moscow is gradually expanding cooperation. This was stated on October 17 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev during a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Burita at the 8th meeting of the Russian-Moroccan Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

At the meeting, the Russian and Moroccan sides discussed the potential of key areas of cooperation between the two countries.

"We are pleased to note that, despite the current geopolitical situation, the dialogue between our countries continues to strengthen and develop within the framework of the Statement on In-depth Strategic Partnership adopted in 2014," Dmitry Patrushev said.

According to available data, the volume of trade in agricultural products between the two countries is steadily growing.

"In the first six months of 2025, the trade turnover increased by almost 30% compared to the same period last year. At the same time, we have a significant potential for further strengthening economic cooperation. In particular, Russia is interested in increasing supplies in the fields of industry, agriculture, energy, transport, and subsoil use," the Russian Deputy Prime Minister said.

Another promising area for collaboration is education. During the meeting, it was noted that in the 2024-2025 academic year, more than 4,000 students from Morocco studied at Russian higher education institutions. Moscow is ready to develop cooperation in the field of general, secondary vocational and additional education in the future, Dmitry Patrushev said.

Burita, during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on October 16, noted that Morocco considers Russia as a close partner and sees it as an important player on the world stage, as well as an honest negotiator. During the meeting with his Russian counterpart, he also conveyed greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin from the country's King Mohammed VI. The parties also discussed the situation in North Africa and the Sahara-Sahel region.
