- The central topic of the REN-2025 was the discussion of Russia's new Energy strategy until 2050
The Russian Energy Week (REN), which has become the largest platform for global dialogue on the future of energy, has passed its equator. REN-2025 is being held with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Government of Moscow, organized by the Roscongress Foundation. Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the REN-2025 Organizing Committee, held a press briefing at the Forum.
He noted that more than 7,000 people from 100 countries are taking part in the Forum, which indicates its key role in developing responses to the most pressing challenges of our time. The discussions focus on the development of the fuel and energy sector, technological breakthrough and ensuring global energy security.
The central topic of the REN-2025 was the discussion of Russia's new Energy strategy until 2050. The entire business program was built around this document, covering key sectors: oil, gas, coal, digital technologies, logistics, energy security and the climate agenda.
"The biggest event of the REN-2025, according to tradition, was the program report of the President at the plenary session of the Forum. Once again, it was pointed out that the future of the Russian energy industry lies in a balanced diversification of energy resources, ensuring optimal functioning of the economy and social sphere in all corners of our country. Another important area remains the fulfillment of Russia's obligations in the international energy markets. It is impossible to work in foreign markets today without us," emphasized Anton Kobyakov.
This year's Russian Energy Week is taking place amid escalating international military and political tensions, which have an impact not only on tactics, but also on the strategy of global energy development, and clearly show that the struggle for energy resources has become a struggle for the future. Global geopolitical challenges are radically changing the energy, logistics and financial map of the world.
"It is already obvious to everyone today that artificial restrictions on resources are harming the global economy. This means that the global economy needs free access to them. This is understood in Russia, it is understood in China, India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia – everywhere. They also understand it in the USA, but in their own way. But this is not understood in Europe. Our President has recorded what many people feel and realize: "Europe, which we all loved so much, is disappearing." Russia is interested in pragmatic relations with the Old Continent. However, fanatics have seized power in the European Union, leading their peoples to decline," the adviser to the head of state stated.
Anton Kobyakov also assessed the situation in the main energy markets, which the Forum participants discussed in detail during the business program of the event.
The growth in the renewable energy sector is mainly driven by China and India. China will account for almost 60% of all renewable capacities installed in the world from 2024 to 2030. Beijing is investing more than $800 billion dollars in renewable energy sources, which is more than the United States, the EU and Britain combined.
As for electricity, the rapid development of IT, AI and bioeconomics will lead to a sharp increase in demand. By 2030, the AI industry will consume up to 5% of the world's electricity. Technological sovereignty will be held by those who can ensure it.
All these trends indicate that the world is undergoing a fundamental transition from a unipolar model imposed by the West to a multipolar one, the Presidential adviser confirmed. The initiatives promoted within the framework of BRICS, SCO and forums such as REN form the contours of this new system. In turn, Russia, together with its partners, is actively working on the creation of infrastructure projects ("One Belt, One Road", "North–South", NSR), which will become the framework of a new economic reality.
