The Peruvian authorities will declare a state of emergency in Lima amid the ongoing protests in the country. This was reported on October 17 by the Reuters news agency, citing Peruvian Prime Minister Ernesto Alvarez.

"The government will declare a state of emergency in Lima within a few hours and is preparing a package of measures to combat the growing instability," Alvarez said.

It is noted that at least one person was killed and dozens of police officers were injured as a result of the protests. According to the agency, the protest was organized by representatives of Generation Z, transport workers and civic groups and was the latest in a series of demonstrations against corruption and rising crime that led to the ouster of former President Dina Boluarte last week.

Earlier, on October 10, the Peruvian parliament unanimously voted to impeach Boluarte amid rising crime. It was noted that 124 people voted for the impeachment of Boluarte, the decision was unanimous. The Chairman of the Peruvian Congress, Jose Heri, took the oath of office as the new President of the republic.

In Lima, on September 21, representatives of the younger generation staged mass riots during anti-government protests. The rallies were held under the slogan "Generation Z against President Dina Boluarte." The participants opposed the reform of the pension system, and also demanded more transparent work of the government and parliament of the country. They also supported animal rights and environmental initiatives.
