The expert spoke about the benefits of feijoa jam
Feijoa jam can be beneficial with moderate consumption and proper cooking recipe. However, despite its positive properties, this product can harm people with diabetes, hyperthyroidism and allergic reactions. This was announced on October 17 by Evgeny Belousov, gastroenterologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic)."Газете.Ru ".
"Jam should be given up in case of diabetes due to the high sugar content. Even when sugar is replaced with sweeteners, feijoa fructose increases glycemia. In addition, an excess of easily digestible carbohydrates contributes to fat accumulation. Because of the iodine content, feijoa is contraindicated in hyperthyroidism," the doctor explained.
He also added that it is important to consider the possibility of allergic reactions. Belousov noted that stomach ulcer or gastritis with increased acidity in the acute stage can also serve as contraindications to the use of jam, since the acid and fiber contained in it can irritate the mucous membrane.
The specialist recommends that adults limit themselves to two teaspoons of jam per day, and children over three years old — half a teaspoon no more than three times a week.
"Even after cooking, flavonoids remain, which reduce oxidative stress and inflammation. It is a good source of iodine (to a lesser extent than in fresh form), which is especially important for residents of iodine-deficient regions. Vitamin C and phytonutrient residues support the body's protective functions. With a reasonable amount of sugar, feijoa jam is a healthier alternative to industrial desserts," the doctor concluded.
Earlier in the day, Popular Science magazine reported on how lead has been affecting humans for more than 2 million years. Scientists believe that this metal could affect brain development, behavior, and even the ability to speak. A new study has shown that differences in genes could help homo sapiens survive where Neanderthals could not.
