An aftershock of magnitude 5.6 was recorded in the Pacific Ocean.

The epicenter of the quake was located 101 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 48 km and a magnitude of 5.6. This was announced on October 17 by the Main Directorate (GU) of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the region.

"Previously, according to instrumental data, an earthquake of up to 4 magnitude was felt in various areas of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Yelizovo," the Telegram channel said in a statement.

No tsunami threat has been announced.
