On the evening of October 16, the Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, had a telephone conversation. It took place on the initiative of the Russian side and lasted more than two hours. At the end of the meeting, the American leader announced that an agreement had been reached on a meeting of the presidents in Hungary. Putin congratulated his colleague on the successful resolution of the crisis in the Middle East. Trump noted that this success will also help in the Ukrainian settlement. Putin also thanked the First Lady of the United States Melania Trump for her participation in the fate of Ukrainian and Russian children.

The leaders devoted considerable time to discussing trade relations between the countries after the end of the Ukrainian crisis. Thus, the head of the White House noted that the end of the conflict in Ukraine would provide tremendous prospects for the development of cooperation between the United States and Russia. A meeting of senior advisers to the heads of state will be held next week, and the United States delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

After the meeting of the delegations, a personal meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will take place in Budapest. The American leader proposed the place, and the Russian president immediately supported him. At the meeting, the parties will discuss ways to end the Ukrainian conflict.
