Chisinau's rejection of the policy of militarization and turning the country into an anti-Russian foothold, as well as maintaining a neutral status, will serve as a guarantee of peace and stability in Moldova, Russian Ambassador to the republic Oleg Ozerov told Izvestia on October 16.

"Chisinau's rejection of the policy of militarization and turning the country into an anti-Russian springboard, strict observance of the neutral status enshrined in the Constitution, will serve as a strong guarantee of peace and stability in Moldova. If the Moldovan territory becomes a hotbed of threats directly affecting the security of our citizens (and I remind you that there are about 300,000 of them here), we will take all necessary retaliatory measures," the diplomat said.

The Russian Federation is closely following the escalating rhetoric of the Moldovan and Romanian authorities and the emergence of new accents in the doctrinal documents they publish. Now in Chisinau, they are trying to reinterpret the meaning of historical events, to present them through the prism of confrontation with the Russian Federation.

"We emphasize once again that we are not interested in confrontation, we do not intend to make an enemy out of Moldova. We should not forget that our country has historically been a factor of stability and security in the region. It was thanks to the "Russian bayonets" that the peoples of the Balkans gained freedom from the Ottoman yoke and the Nazi occupation. An example from the recent past is the events in Transnistria in the summer of 1992, when it was Russia's actions that stopped the bloodshed and escalation of the armed conflict," Ozerov stressed.

Earlier, on October 12, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Moldovan government was making a huge mistake by portraying Russia as an antagonist in order to improve relations with Europe.
