Researchers at the Institute of Cytology of the Russian Academy of Sciences have discovered the SETD7 protein, which regulates the preparation of the endometrium for pregnancy. Disruption of its functions is associated with the risk of termination of pregnancy. They reported this on October 15. "Газете.Ru ".
The researchers found that the SETD7 protein controls the transformation of endometrial stromal cells into decidual cells that form the basis of the placenta. An imbalance between the formation of these cells and the process of cellular aging can lead to pregnancy loss.
"Studying the literature data and conducting bioinformatic analysis, we drew attention to regulators of gene expression and discovered among them a new, previously undescribed regulator of endometrial stromal cell transformation, the SETD7 protein," explained Alexandra Borodkina, head of the Laboratory of Mechanisms of Cellular Aging at the INC RAS.
Experiments have shown that blocking SETD7 completely disrupts cell division. Scientists have also confirmed that this protein stabilizes the estrogen receptor, a key regulator of decidualization.
According to Pavel Deryabin, a researcher at the laboratory, endometrial tissue analysis showed a link between reduced SETD7 expression and cases of pregnancy loss. The data obtained can help in the development of new approaches to reproductive problems.
In the future, understanding these mechanisms can be used to create therapeutic strategies that increase the likelihood of successful conception and childbirth.
