Britain lifted a 30-year arms embargo on Armenia and Azerbaijan
The UK will lift the arms embargo on Armenia and Azerbaijan, which has been in place for more than 30 years. This was stated on October 13 in a statement by Stephen Doughty, Deputy Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom, published on the website of the British Parliament.
"The UK believes that the justification for the arms embargo recommended by the OSCE in 1992 has lost its relevance. Therefore, the UK will completely lift the arms embargo on Armenia and Azerbaijan," the document says.
It is noted that this decision will allow cooperation between the countries to develop in a rapidly changing context.
In August, following a meeting between Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and Doughty, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported that Armenia and the United Kingdom had decided to bring their relations to the level of strategic partnership. According to the representatives of the parties, the agreement includes the expansion of cooperation in the field of security and defense, as well as the exchange of military attaches on defense issues.
