- Bloomberg announced the ousting of the United States by Russia from the Venezuelan nafta market
The United States has lost its status as the main supplier of naphtha, an oil refining product used in the petrochemical industry, and Russia has taken its place. This was reported on October 13 by Bloomberg, citing data from the analytical company Kpler.
Supplies from the United States stopped after Washington tightened sanctions against the Venezuelan oil sector and revoked the license to operate in Venezuela from the American energy company Chevron.
From March to October of this year, more than 7 million barrels of naphtha arrived from Russia to Venezuela. In August and September, supplies reached about 49-69 thousand barrels per day.
"Under increasing pressure, the government of Maduro [Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro] announced this month that it had signed a partnership agreement with Russia that would facilitate joint efforts in the fields of energy and defense," the agency said in a statement.
Earlier, on October 10, it was reported that Venezuelan officials offered the administration of US President Donald Trump a dominant share in Venezuela's oil and other mineral wealth during negotiations that lasted months. It is noted that the American authorities responded with a harsh refusal.
