- Consul Ilyin reported on the presence of Russians in a fraudulent Myanmar call center
Several Russians are being held in a fraudulent call center located on the border of Myanmar and Thailand. This was announced on October 13 by Ilya Ilyin, head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Thailand, who participated in the release of four Russian citizens abducted from Thailand and placed in call centers in Myanmar.
"There are definitely several of our fellow citizens there, who, according to those who were released and rescued from there, are in call centers of their own free will," he told RIA Novosti.
In addition, Ilyin added that the presence of Russian citizens in call centers is "highly likely." He also clarified that at the moment there is no information about the exact number of Russians held by fraudsters.
Ilyin said on October 12 that the organizers of fraudulent call centers in Myanmar were luring Russians into slavery by offering them careers as models or advertising agents in Thailand. Most of the time, victims do not realize that they are already in Myanmar, as their phones are being taken away and information about their location is being hidden.
