The European Union (EU) has launched an electronic entry and exit system (EES), which provides for the electronic registration of non-EU citizens. This was reported by Reuters on October 12.

According to the agency, the Entry and Exit System (EES) is an automated system that requires travelers to register at the border by scanning their passport, taking fingerprints and taking photographs. It will be gradually implemented over a period of six months.

"The purpose of this measure is to identify people who have overstayed their stay, combat fraud using personal data and prevent illegal migration," the material says.

According to Reuters, citizens of non-EU countries will need to register their personal data upon first entry into the Schengen area. Subsequent trips will only require biometric verification of the person. The stamps in the passports will be replaced.

On October 10, the Euractiv portal reported that Brussels is preparing to introduce tougher measures for third countries as part of the European Union (EU) visa strategy, which may be adopted at the end of 2025. According to media reports, the visa regime may be tightened depending on how countries are ready to cooperate with the bloc in the field of migration. Brussels will also introduce multiple-entry Schengen visas for "verified travelers" for 10 years, while at the same time organizing a system for reviewing visa-free regimes.
