The Federal Association of German Airlines (BDF) is calling for permission to shoot down drones over airports amid flight delays due to incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was reported on October 11 by Der Spiegel magazine.

"In a threatening situation, it should be possible to shoot down drones," said BDF President Peter Gerber.

According to him, it is necessary to figure out as soon as possible who will be responsible for security.

"It annoys me that the urgency of the drone problem is only now being recognized. We have been pointing out this problem for 10 years now," Gerber stressed.

The BDF CEO added that German airlines and airports are losing millions of euros in profits due to drones and clarified that if the situation does not change, ticket prices will rise soon.

Earlier, on October 2, Munich airport was closed due to unidentified UAVs in the airspace, as a result of which about 20 flights were canceled. The exact number of drones has not been established. It was clarified that the police had started monitoring.

Later, on October 4, Munich Airport began to resume operations after the drone incident. It was also noted that there may be delays in the operation of the airline during the day.

The Bild newspaper reported on the same day that the drones spotted over Munich Airport were military reconnaissance drones.
