Russians should be given the right to go on maternity leave at any stage of pregnancy and expand payments for unemployed women. This was stated to TASS on October 11 by the head of the Fair Russia — For Truth party, Sergei Mironov.

The DEPUTY announced an initiative to expand women's rights to maternity leave and proposed extending maternity benefits to unemployed women. In addition, he proposed to increase support for families with children, including extending mortgage benefits.

It is specified that currently in Russia a woman can go on maternity leave on the basis of a disability certificate. For a single pregnancy, the vacation lasts 70 days before delivery and 70 days after. In case of multiple pregnancies — 84 days before delivery and 110 days after. In case of complications, the vacation can be extended to 156 days. After the end of maternity leave, one of the parents can take parental leave.

On September 26, the State Duma proposed reducing the working day of pregnant women to six hours without cutting their earnings. It was clarified that the proposed initiative is aimed at alleviating the physical and emotional state of pregnant women, which often worsens due to fears of losing income or work.
