The Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region granted the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and decided to seize the academic building, dormitory and other buildings of the St. Petersburg University of the Humanities of Trade Unions from illegal possession. On September 25, the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region decided to dismiss Zapesotsky from the post of rector of the St. Petersburg Humanitarian University of Trade Unions (SPbGUP). He was charged with attempts to legalize the illegal seizure of state property through court proceedings against the background of concealing the fact of construction of facilities at the expense of the state.

Later, on October 6, it was reported that the committee of the St. Petersburg State University students' trade union sent an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the dismissal of Rector Zapesotsky and the appointment of Evgeny Lubashev in his place.
