Denmark will purchase 16 new F-35 fighter jets for a total of more than $4.5 billion, Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen will travel to the United States within two weeks to conclude the contract. "I expect that we will be able to conclude an agreement, which may mean that in the next few years we will be able to see the first of the 16 F-35 fighter jets arrive in Denmark," the broadcaster quoted Poulsen as saying.
It is specified that the investments include two new Arctic ships and one marine aircraft. The ministry said the investments were necessary to "prepare for difficult times."
Earlier in the day, the Swedish Ministry of Defense announced that it intends to invest more than 5 billion Swedish kronor (about $524 million) for additional anti-drone systems and components for JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets.
