- The head of the US Department of Commerce stated the key role of energy in the settlement in Ukraine
Energy will play a key role in U.S. efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by the US Secretary of Commerce Howard Latnik on October 9 during a meeting of the Cabinet of the US administration, the broadcast of which was published on the White House Youtube channel.
"We have one more question that I know you [US President Donald Trump] want to complete, related to Russia and Ukraine. Energy will play a key role in it," Latnik said.
On October 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that without Russian oil, the situation in the global energy sector would be unstable. According to Putin, Russia's absence from the global energy sector is unprofitable for countries whose economies are quite weak.
On September 25, Putin met with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, in the Kremlin during the Global Atomic Forum as part of World Atomic Week. During the meeting, Putin said that cooperation between Russia and the IAEA has been established in almost all areas. According to him, cooperation is taking place in the areas of Russian energy development and Russia's participation in the implementation of projects abroad. The Russian President added that the parties also cooperate on issues of nuclear safety in the world.
On October 9, Grossi announced the beginning of the process of restoring power supply lines at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). He added that in recent weeks, active negotiations have been held with representatives of Russia and Ukraine, where ways to solve the problem of loss of external power supply at the NPP were discussed.
