The efforts of two European countries, Hungary and Slovakia, which want peace, not war, do not allow the European Union (EU) to turn into a "war machine". This was announced on October 9 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"Hungary, Slovakia, who do not want war, but peace. With their position, they are preventing the European Union from turning from the once promised economic and social "paradise on Earth" into a military machine," the foreign minister said in an interview with RT for the Bridges to the East project.

He noted that the right of veto in the UN Security Council "is also a deterrence of excesses that may sometimes occur in one or another country from among the permanent members."

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on October 3 that the EU countries are sliding towards war, and the danger of conflict has been growing lately. He added that only Slovakia openly supports Hungary, while the rest of the EU countries that are on the sidelines are "gradually becoming the majority" regarding the Hungarian position.

On September 26, Armando Mema, a former candidate for the European Parliament and member of the Finnish national conservative Freedom Alliance party, said that Europe's main goal is to start hostilities with Russia.
