- The political scientist called the Nobel Peace Prize the most subjective of all nominations.
The Nobel Prize is a mechanism for determining the "best", which does not correspond to reality, and the Peace Prize, in turn, is the most subjective of all nominations. This opinion was shared by Candidate of Historical Sciences, political scientist Vladimir Shapovalov in an interview with Izvestia on October 9.
"This is part of the Western globalist construction. To a lesser extent, when it comes to science. But even here we see that since a certain point in time, since the 50s of the twentieth century, Americans have been constantly winning scientific nominations, which, in general, does not correspond to the objective results of science," he explained.
Speaking about the Nobel Peace Prize, the political scientist noted that it reflects the consensus opinion of liberal Western elites who seek to identify their position by selecting certain laureates. At the same time, this award has no value for the majority of the world's countries, Shapovalov stressed.
"[US President Donald] Trump positions himself as a politician who has contributed to achieving peace in a number of international conflicts. And in general, we must admit that some achievements do take place, and we are talking, of course, about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict," the political scientist said.
In his opinion, Trump's efforts in resolving other conflicts were minimal. Shapovalov added that all four US presidents who received the Nobel Peace Prize in previous years were controversial figures.
"From my point of view, none of them was worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. Each of them committed militaristic acts, contributed to the incitement of wars and conflicts," he concluded.
At the end of September, the Verkhovna Rada proposed nominating Trump for the Nobel Prize. It was clarified that the document was signed by five deputies. However, the Verkhovna Rada has not been able to adopt a resolution on the nomination of the American leader.
On August 13, the White House announced the nomination of Trump by seven states for the Nobel Peace Prize. Among those who supported this initiative were Prime Ministers of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, Cambodia Hun Manet, Presidents of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Gabon Brice Oligi Nguema, as well as the Government of Pakistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Rwanda Olivier Nduhirehe.
On September 2, Trump himself responded negatively to a journalist's question about his desire to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. He added that he wants to be treated fairly for his services as president of the United States.
