- The Kremlin supported the agreement of Israel and Hamas on the first phase of the settlement agreement
Moscow supports the agreement of Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement on the first phase of the settlement agreement in Gaza. This was announced on October 9 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
"We certainly support these efforts. It cannot but cause general satisfaction that a ceasefire in Gaza is already being established. All these efforts can be welcomed," Interfax quoted him as saying.
At the same time, Peskov urged to wait for the signing of the agreement in order to comment on this event. He expressed the hope that the signatures would be delivered on October 9, and then actions would follow to implement the agreements reached.
Earlier in the day, the Reuters news agency reported that the signing of the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first stage of the peace plan is expected at 12:00. The first stage of the partial withdrawal of Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops from the Gaza Strip will begin within 24 hours after the signing of the deal with Hamas, the agency said. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in turn, began preparations for the implementation of the deal with Hamas, in particular for the withdrawal of troops to the agreed lines.
On October 8, US President Donald Trump announced that he might visit the Middle East at the end of this week to negotiate peace in Gaza, and did not rule out a visit to the Palestinian enclave itself. At the same time, the American leader stressed that his participation is necessary to conclude a deal between Hamas and Israel.
Later, Trump announced the signing of the first phase of the peace plan between the Israeli side and the Palestinian movement. As the head of state pointed out, this means the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to the agreed line and the speedy release of all hostages.
On October 9, Al Jazeera TV channel reported that the Palestinian Hamas movement confirmed the achievement of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in turn, said he would convene the cabinet on the afternoon of October 9 to agree on the first stage of the US plan to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
