Lavrov warned about the risks of the Kurdish problem in case of separatism in Syria
If the "games with the Syrian Kurds" of autonomy and separatism lead to anything concrete, the Kurdish problem could flare up throughout the Middle East. This was announced on October 8 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"The traditional fears of many are that the Kurdish problem will "explode," because if these "games" with the Syrian Kurds into autonomy and separatism result in something concrete, then the Kurdish problem could explode in all other countries in the region," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The minister noted that this issue entails "serious risks." Lavrov stressed that the unity of Syria should be an important priority for all countries with influence on the situation. According to the Russian Foreign Minister, this influence should extend to Damascus and various ethno-confessional and political groups in the country.
The day before, Al-Ekhbaria TV channel reported that one security officer was killed and three others were injured as a result of an attack by the Kurdish Forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on checkpoints of the Syrian internal security forces. It was clarified that the SDF shelled the residential areas of Sheikh Maqsood and the Ashrafiya district in Aleppo with mortars and heavy machine guns, as well as attacked checkpoints near the Al-Awarid Bridge.
