Moldova wants to subjugate Transnistria by undermining the economy of the unrecognized republic. This was stated by Deputy of the Supreme Council of the PMR Andrei Safonov in an interview with Izvestia.

"After winning the parliamentary elections on September 28, the Moldovan authorities feel more relaxed and pursue a tougher policy. It is quite possible that they, together with the European Union (EU), want to plunge Transnistria into a crisis similar to the one that occurred in January-February. Hopefully, common sense will prevail, but "we're keeping our powder dry," and we're preparing for the most difficult scenarios," he explained.

Earlier on October 2, Pridnestrovian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Obolonik announced that a gas economy regime would be introduced in the republic by the middle of the month. The production of electricity for the population, household and humanitarian needs will be a priority. After this period, all consumers and needs will be provided with gas in a normal mode," he said.

On August 6, the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) approved the extension of the state of emergency in the economy until the end of August. At that time, the press service of the Parliament of the PMR noted that the economic crisis in the region continues to worsen, as well as the problem of providing fuel.
