Sports should not be politicized, there is no place for double standards. This was announced on October 8 at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"What really distinguishes sports from other fields <...> is that there are rules in sports <...> there can be no double standards in sports. So, this is no longer a sport. <...> There is no sport without rules. The sport of double standards is turning into something completely different," she said.

She added that sports should not be politicized and the rules in this area should apply to everyone.

Earlier, on September 24, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the politicized attitude towards Russia in the field of sports continues, and double standards are applied to the country.

On September 12, the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation did not allow Russians to qualify for the 2026 Olympics. Anatoly Pegov, President of the Russian Bobsleigh Federation, said that the vote on the admission of Russian athletes to the Olympics was secret.

On August 28, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) decided not to allow neutral athletes to qualify for the 2026 Olympics. According to the IBU, 186 of the 210 Olympic quotas have already been distributed among the National Olympic Committees (NOCs).
