- Hamas demanded that the release of the hostages be linked to the withdrawal of IDF troops from Gaza.
The delegation of the Hamas movement, during the second day of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Gaza in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, demanded that the release of hostages be linked to the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip. This was reported on October 7 by Al Jazeera TV channel, citing a source.
"The [Hamas] delegation stresses that the release of the last hostage must coincide with the latest withdrawal of the [Israeli] occupation forces," the statement said.
According to a TV channel source, the second day of negotiations was devoted to discussing withdrawal maps and a timetable for the release of hostages. Hamas is also said to have demanded international guarantees for a final end to the conflict and the complete withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza.
The plan of US President Donald Trump to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, published by the White House on September 29, which was also supported by key Arab and Islamic countries the next day, described 20 points in detail.
On October 3, Hamas representatives announced their agreement to transfer control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Committee and release all Israeli hostages. They also expressed their willingness to immediately begin negotiations through intermediaries to discuss the details of a possible agreement. The next day, the Israeli authorities ordered the suspension of military operations in the Gaza Strip.
Later, on October 5, the foreign ministers of eight Arab countries — the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Indonesia and Egypt — called for an immediate mechanism to establish peace in the Gaza Strip.
