The potential postponement of the start of the school day in Russian schools from 08:30 a.m. to 09:00 a.m. will not be able to fully take into account the schedule of students' parents, nor will it have any effect on children's academic performance. This was announced on October 7 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education (RAO) Gennady Onishchenko.

"Half an hour does not play such a role. Why at 08:30 in the morning (classes start. - Ed.)? Today in Moscow, children are accompanied to school by their parents, but now imagine: the day begins at 09:00, which means that the mother must bring the child to school and get to work. This should also be taken into account," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Accordingly, Onishchenko commented on the initiative proposed by the deputies of the State Duma (State Duma) from the LDPR party, led by the faction leader Leonid Slutsky on Wednesday, October 1, to postpone lessons in schools to 09:00. The developers of the bill also called for considering the possibility of consolidating a five-day working week in educational institutions.

The Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education stressed that such proposals could lead to serious social shifts, and such difficult but interesting issues from the point of view of medicine and pedagogy need to be addressed on a continuous basis.
