- The political scientist predicted a political crisis in France after the resignation of Prime Minister Lecorn
France will face a deep and insurmountable political crisis after the resignation of Prime Minister Sebastien Lecorny. Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, Professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, told Izvestia on October 6.
"Lecornyu acted wisely by leaving his post. He has big political ambitions. It is not in his interests to lead the Cabinet of Ministers in an era of total turbulence. Lecorny does not want to become a "scapegoat" and take responsibility for the problems that have been accumulating in France for years. In the future, he reserves the chance to run for president of the country," the expert said.
At the moment, according to the political scientist, no politician will agree to head the French government. If French President Emmanuel Macron does not find a suitable candidate, he will either have to appoint a "faceless figure" to this position, or announce new parliamentary elections.
"The second option scares the inhabitant of the Elysee Palace, as it is fraught with the rise to power of right—wing forces," concluded Feldman.
The BFM TV channel, with reference to the Elysee Palace, reported on the same day that Lecorn had submitted a letter of resignation to Macron. The Head of State accepted the document.
Lecorny was appointed to the post on September 9, but soon faced criticism from the opposition, including the right. On September 14, Lecornu began his mandate with the lowest rating among his predecessors — only 16% of respondents positively assessed his appointment. As specified, 40% of the respondents expressed a negative opinion.
