At least 23 people have died in eastern India as a result of a landslide due to heavy rains. This was reported on October 5 by the Press Trust Of India (PTI) news agency.

"At least 23 people, including children, died on Sunday when torrential rain triggered one of the strongest landslides in a decade in the mountains of Darjeeling and surrounding areas," the publication said.

Houses were demolished and roads blocked in the disaster area, and some settlements were completely isolated from the outside world. In the most affected district of Darjeeling, 18 deaths were recorded.

On the same day, it was reported that at least 47 people died in Nepal as a result of landslides in the country. They were caused by heavy rains, which also led to flash floods, blocking roads and washing away bridges.
