Los Angeles City Hall evacuated after car incident
Los Angeles City Hall was evacuated after a car crashed at the entrance to the building. The incident led to the temporary blocking of adjacent streets and motorway exits, the Los Angeles Times reported on October 3.
The driver stayed in the car for almost two hours until police officers convinced him to get out. The man voluntarily left the car and was taken into custody.
"I have been informed of an ongoing incident at City Hall, which is being evacuated for precautionary reasons," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said.
She thanked the emergency services for their prompt response and assured that the Mayor's office would continue to monitor the situation.
A police bomb squad inspected the car after the driver was detained. The Los Angeles Police Department said the investigation has been completed and the streets will soon be open to traffic. Emergency services will continue to monitor the area to ensure the safety of residents and employees of the city Hall.
Earlier in the day, Turkey's national intelligence organization detained a local resident in Istanbul on suspicion of collaborating with the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. Turkish citizen Serkan Cicek agreed to transfer information about the Palestinian activist for $4,000 in cryptocurrency, but was unable to fulfill the order. The arrest was carried out jointly with the local security directorate as part of an investigation by the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office.
