- CBS News learned about Netanyahu's personal order to attack humanitarian aid ships for Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally approved the carrying out of two attacks on civilian vessels that were trying to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. This was reported on October 3 by CBS News TV channel, citing sources.
"Netanyahu at the beginning of last month directly approved military operations on two ships that were part of a flotilla heading to Gaza and carrying humanitarian aid and pro-Palestinian supporters, including Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg," the publication says.
It is noted that on September 8 and 9, the Israeli army launched drones and dropped incendiary devices on ships that were moored in the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said, resulting in a fire.
It is also noted that the use of incendiary weapons against civilians and non-military targets is prohibited by international humanitarian law and the law of armed conflict.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not comment on the incident to CBS News reporters.
On October 1, it was reported that the Israeli military had landed on the flotilla ships. At least nine vessels are currently known to have been intercepted.
After the incident, Colombia immediately denounced the free trade agreement with Israel.
On September 10, it was reported that the main ship of the Global Sumuda Flotilla, led by Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, sailing to the shores of the Gaza Strip, was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It is specified that this attack, which became the second in a few days, was recorded off the coast of the city of Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia.
