Ekaterina Volnova, PhD, Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Bioorganic Synthesis at Rosbiotech University, named on Friday, October 3, ways to get rid of persistent unpleasant odors from shoes.

According to the expert, first of all, it is important to observe foot hygiene. This item includes the use of pumice stone and special scrubs to remove dead skin cells, which are a breeding ground for bacteria.

You also need to take measures to control sweating.

"To reduce the activity of sweat glands and suppress microflora, it is advisable to use products with antimicrobial components such as zinc, tea tree oil or triclosan," the biotechnologist said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Choosing the right shoes is important, the specialist noted. Preference should be given to breathable materials. In addition, moisture-absorbing insoles based on charcoal, cedar wood or other absorbents can be used.

Another rule for protecting shoes from unpleasant odors is regular shoe care. After wearing, shoes must be thoroughly dried at room temperature, and it is recommended to use specialized sprays with disinfectant components or ultraviolet dryers to disinfect and eliminate pathogenic microflora, Volnova added.

As an emergency step, solutions of apple cider vinegar or baking soda can be used to treat the feet. However, they should be used with caution so as not to disrupt the natural pH balance and cause excessive dryness of the skin.

On September 13, Konstantin Ternovoy, a traumatologist, orthopedist, osteopath, Candidate of Medical Sciences, spoke about the consequences of the habit of wearing low shoes, short trousers and walking with bare ankles in autumn. He stated that it is necessary to change fabric sneakers to waterproof and high-top shoes for the season in order to prevent hypothermia and inflammation of the Achilles tendon.
