A new record for the import of used cars has been set in Russia
By the end of September 2025, 48.4 thousand used passenger cars were imported to Russia from abroad (14% compared to September last year). This is the highest figure not only this year, but also for all previous ones, the analytical agency Autostat reported on October 3. The Toyota brand and its Corolla model are the leaders among used cars in terms of import volume.
The volume of imports of new passenger cars last month amounted to 33.6 thousand units, which is 68% less than in September last year. Among the new cars, Changan brand cars and its Uni-S model were most often imported in early autumn.
According to analysts, the share of imports by individuals increased in September compared to August, which is explained by a decrease in imports by distributors due to the availability of cars in warehouses. Subsequently, there will be a decrease in the share of individuals in imports, since. the drains of legal entities are running out, analysts predict.
In September, China accounted for the bulk of new car imports (the share decreased to 65.2%), followed by Kyrgyzstan (the share increased to 16.3%), Kazakhstan and South Korea (5.1% each). Used cars are still most often imported from Japan (the share decreased to 39.1%). South Korea accounts for 22.2% of used car imports, while China accounts for 20.4%.
The day before, it was reported that a new testing laboratory of FSUE NAMI for mandatory conformity assessment of cars imported into Russia was launched in Vladivostok. The laboratory provides testing services for imported single vehicles. They are a mandatory procedure for obtaining the SBCTS and further registration of the EPTS.
Earlier, on September 22, it was reported that in eight months this year, 70.8 thousand new passenger cars were imported into Russia under alternative import schemes. This is 40% less than in January – August last year.
