- An expert from China highly appreciated the technological aspects of the MAX messenger
Henglong Zhao, a co-founder of the Rulla IT company, drew parallels with Chinese WeChat in a column for Vedomosti and outlined the strategic advantages of the Russian MAX platform.
The expert highly appreciated the technological aspects of the project and the record growth rate of the audience — in just a few months since the launch of the application, one in four Russians has registered at MAX. According to Zhao, the modern interface with chat folders, message editing, and fast reactions distinguishes MAX from WeChat.
In China, the expert notes, WeChat has almost replaced mobile communications, offering high-quality calls. MAX shows comparable quality, using more than 2,500 media servers in Russia and implementing modern technologies to improve calls: for example, DRed and NoLACE.
The expert attributed the course towards deep integration with government services and business applications to the similarities of the two platforms.
"The idea is to give the user a universal digital tool for accessing all services: finance, medicine, and everyday services," the specialist emphasized.
"MAX and WeChat are products of similar orientation, but with different history and development logic. MAX has a chance to build its own model, taking into account Russian realities, strong banking infrastructure and demands for digital sovereignty," Zhao said.
Separately, Zhao noted MAX's balanced approach to privacy and security.
"The existing encryption systems reliably protect user data. At the same time, localization of companies enables law enforcement agencies to reduce the risks of fraud," he said.
If the user has been deceived, it is easier for law enforcement agencies to complete the investigation. Modern anti-fraud technologies are also used to detect intruders in MAX, and the ability to automatically verify numbers has been implemented, which allows for an additional level of protection against telephone fraud, the expert noted.
"MAX does not repeat, but creates its own model. The main thing in this story is not to make calls, but to find your way to what a superapp in Russia should be, relying on already established platforms," Zhao concluded.
Earlier, Joseph Schutzman, ex-manager of the American telecommunications corporation Sprint, presented a professional look at the Russian messenger MAX. In his analysis, Schutzman drew parallels with global trends and outlined the key challenges facing the platform.
