- The political scientist predicted the policy of the Moldovan authorities after the elections
The Moldovan authorities believe that they have confidently won the parliamentary elections, therefore they will continue to adhere to the previous course. This means that the persecution of the opposition will continue. Natalia Kharitonova, Chief Researcher at the Russian State University of Economics and Doctor of Political Sciences, told Izvestia about this on October 4.
"The Moldovan authorities believe that they have confidently won the elections and received a popular mandate to continue their policy. Therefore, the domestic political situation will continue to remain tense. In addition, the information space will continue to be cleaned up, and tariffs for housing and communal services will increase. Gagauzia will be gradually stripped of its autonomous status, gradually reducing certain powers. Transnistria will be stifled economically, while the authorities will try to achieve the withdrawal of the Russian military," she predicts.
On September 30, a court in Chisinau sentenced Marina Tauber, a former member of parliament and executive secretary of the executive committee of the Pobeda bloc. She was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison. In addition, the court banned her from engaging in government and public activities for five years.
Parliamentary elections were held in Moldova on September 28. The ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) scored 50.2%. The main opposition force, the Patriotic Bloc, received 24.17%.
