- Macron announced a meeting of the "coalition of the willing" after the arrest of the tanker Boracay
After the Boracay oil tanker was detained off the coast of France, the heads of the general staff of the Coalition of the Willing will hold a joint meeting to discuss a plan for further action in the near future. This was announced on October 2 by French President Emmanuel Macron.
"In the coming days, our chiefs of staff, in coordination with NATO and within the framework of the coalition of the willing <...>, will meet to develop joint actions in the coming weeks," Le Monde newspaper quoted him as saying.
According to the politician, France has undertaken the detention due to suspicions about the tanker.
On October 2, Macron proposed to detain tankers at sea in order to disrupt the alleged supply of oil from Russia.
Also on this day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident with the tanker piracy. He noted that by such actions the French authorities are trying to divert the attention of the population from the difficult domestic political situation.
On September 30, the French Navy detained the Benin-flagged oil tanker Boracay, which allegedly transported Russian oil in circumvention of sanctions. An investigation into the vessel was launched because the crew allegedly failed to provide evidence of the vessel's nationality and "failed to comply with orders."
