Maria Antonova, a lecturer at the Department of Taxes and Tax Administration at the Financial University under the Government of Russia, named on Thursday, October 2, an algorithm for actions in case of suspected error in calculating property taxes.

According to the expert, in this situation it is not worth paying for it immediately. She noted that all real estate objects should be checked, the correctness of the cadastral numbers of land plots, the engine power of the car, the cancellation or introduction of local benefits and other nuances should be checked.

"We also compare our tax burden for this year with the same amount for last year — it shouldn't change much, only if you haven't sold or purchased a new taxable object," Antonova explained in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

Antonova noted that incurring tax expenses directly indicates ownership of a real estate object, land plot or vehicle, and the absence of a tax calculated by the tax authorities on it may indicate fraudulent actions with property.

She stressed that if there are doubts about the correctness of the charges, the first step is to contact the tax authority to verify and update information about the property.

"At the same time, we request reconciliation reports on doubtful periods and taxes, and in no case do we pay property taxes until discrepancies are identified," the economist said.

After the audit, the tax authority will notify you of its results. If you disagree with the audit findings, you need to bring documents confirming your position, and the next step may be a complaint and court proceedings, she concluded.

Earlier that day, Anna Polyakova, an economist and head of the Moscow branch of the independent trade union Novy Trud, warned that if the payment of property tax was overdue for 30 days, funds could be forcibly written off from accounts, RT reports.

In July, Sergei Krylov, General director of the League for the Protection of Loan Debtors, told the National Assembly that out-of-court collection of tax arrears would complicate the lives of ordinary Russians, who in this case would not have time to find money to cover the debt, nor the opportunity to challenge part of the debt in court.
