- The leader of the Christian Social Union of Moldova, Kaelin, was arrested for 30 days.
Gabriel Calin, a journalist and leader of the Christian Social Union of Moldova party, has been arrested for 30 days, his lawyer, Yuri Mergineanu, told Izvestia on October 2.
According to him, Kalin is charged with allegedly laundering money and bribing voters. At the same time, the investigators do not provide any adequate evidence.
"There were no arguments, just guesses, because they all connect together with some kind of crypto wallet that allegedly belongs to [the leader of the Pobeda bloc, Ilan] Shore. And allegedly, he received a crypto currency, which was cashed out in Moldova. And so they give this crypto wallet, the last name of some person, the turnover of this wallet, but there is nothing connected with the last name of Shor. And there was no other evidence as such," the lawyer said.
Marzineanu noted that the bribery of voters was "added" to Calin specifically before the parliamentary elections in order to discredit the candidate.
"If I give you this petition to read, you will laugh, even if it is not clear to a lawyer that there is no evidence there," he concluded.
Kaelin was arrested on September 30. Blogger Vitaly Florya, who is a member of the party, was also detained. Prior to that, the representatives of the union were searched.
The day before, political analyst Igor Semenovsky told Izvestia that the regime of Moldovan President Maia Sandu had used a whole arsenal of methods to combat the opposition before the parliamentary elections in the republic. He recalled that before the elections, a large number of opposition politicians were searched, and some were even detained.
