The Russian Embassy announced that the Czech Republic had ignored requests for access to the Konev monument.

The Czech Foreign Ministry ignored a repeated note from the Russian Embassy asking for official information about the location of the sculpture of Marshal of the USSR Ivan Konev and to provide access to it for an inspection of its condition. This was reported to Izvestia on October 1 at the Russian Embassy in Prague.

"In 2025, the embassy twice sent a note to the Czech Foreign Ministry asking for official information on the location of the sculpture of Marshal of the Soviet Union Ivan Konev, which was dismantled in 2020, and to provide Russian diplomats with access to it to inspect its condition," the diplomatic mission said.

The embassy recalled that the Czech Foreign Ministry publicly responded to the first note dated April 30. The Czech side stated that it considers the monument to Ivan Konev as the property of Prague and does not consider it either a military burial site, an object included in the list of cultural monuments, or a so-called place of worship.

Marianna Vernerova, head of the Media Relations department at the Czech Foreign Ministry, said that Russia "has no legal or moral rights to the sculpture."

"Thus, our request was ignored. A repeated request to the Czech Foreign Ministry regarding the issues raised by the Embassy in the note dated April 30, 2025, was sent on May 16, 2025. There was no response. Apparently, there is nothing to answer," the Russian Embassy noted.

On May 6, Russian Ambassador to Prague Alexander Zmeevsky said that the Czech authorities did not provide the Russian side with information about the exact location of the monument to Konev. A note was sent from Moscow to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic with a request to assist the Russian Embassy in determining the exact location and conducting an inspection of the dismantled sculpture.
