- Trump announced that his administration was discussing the construction of new battleships.
The administration of US President Donald Trump is discussing the construction of new battleships. This was announced by Trump on September 30 at a meeting between Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth and American generals and admirals.
"We are considering the possibility of building warships from the Second World War, this is not an old technology. We need to think about warships. <...> We are seriously considering the possibility of [building ships like during World War II]. It was a very big force, and it couldn't be scarier or more dangerous. So we will consider this option," Trump said.
He noted that many may call battleships outdated technologies, but he disagrees with this. According to Trump, his administration is considering a return to building warships with 6-inch (15 cm) steel armor because aluminum is not a reliable material.
Earlier, on September 9, the media reported that China was rapidly developing its submarine fleet, increasing competition with the United States and its allies in the Pacific region, leading to a new arms race. Experts note that Beijing has made progress in creating a new generation of nuclear submarines — they are faster, longer-range and quieter than previous ones. It was reported that the United States has limited production capacity. According to the Congress, only 67% of the attack boats are in service.
