On the holiday, the ancestors began to collect rosehips — it was necessary to replenish stocks before the onset of frost, since then the berries may lose all their useful properties. Medicinal infusions were prepared from rosehip, which were used for colds, stomach and joint pains, and dried berries were added to tea.
Also, on October 1, it was decided to help beggars and people in difficult situations. It was believed that anyone who showed avarice and indifference could lose luck and prosperity.
The ancestors paid attention to various signs of Arina Rosehip. What church holiday is celebrated on October 1st
On October 1, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of the martyrs Sophia and Irina of Egypt, who suffered for their faith in the third century. Almost nothing is known about their lives. According to legend, the saints were tortured for professing Christianity under Emperor Aurelian. The order for their execution was given by the Egyptian ruler Claudius. In the fourth century, the relics of the martyrs were transferred by Constantine the Great to Constantinople.
Also on October 1, believers remember St. Euphrosyne of Suzdal. She was born in 1212 in the family of the holy Prince Mikhail of Chernigov and Princess Theophania. According to legend, the Mother of God announced the birth of her daughter to her parents three times. The girl was named Feodulia. In her youth, the princess was betrothed to the faithful Prince Theodore Yaroslavich, the brother of Alexander Nevsky, but the groom died on the very day of the wedding. Feodulia did not return home, but became a monk in the Suzdal Ordination Monastery under the name Euphrosyne.
The young nun zealously followed the harsh rules of monastic life. She was distinguished by her firmness of mind, prayerful zeal, and restraint. Over time, Euphrosyne became a mentor for her sisters in the faith, the abbess herself often turned to her for advice. Many residents of Suzdal and the surrounding lands came to listen to the instructions of the monk. Many then took monastic vows.
Subsequently, Euphrosyne became abbess of the Ordination Monastery. During the Tatar-Mongol invasion, she strengthened the faith of her sisters. According to legend, when Suzdal was devastated by invaders in 1238, the monastery survived thanks to her intercession.

Prayer of St. Euphrosyne of Suzdal
"Oh, glorious Mother, our speedy helper and intercessor, and our vigilant prayer book! As we stand before your icon and gaze upon it with tenderness, as you are alive and well, we fervently pray to you: accept our petitions and bring them to the Throne of the Merciful Heavenly Father, for you have much boldness towards Him. Ask for eternal salvation and temporary prosperity for those who flow to you and for all Orthodox Christians, and for all our good deeds and endeavors, a generous blessing and speedy deliverance from all troubles and sorrows. By God, our child-loving mother! You, who stand before the Throne of God, know the essence of our spiritual and worldly needs: look at us with a motherly eye and turn away all evil from us through your prayers, especially the multiplication of evil and God-defying customs. Establish in all faith a consistent knowledge, mutual love, and unity of mind, so that in all our lives, words, writings, and deeds, the all-holy name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, the One God, worshipped in the Trinity, may be glorified, honor, and glory forever and ever. Amen to that."
