Alikhanov named the number of car brands with production localization in Russia

Currently, more than 20 brands of passenger cars are produced in Russia, and about 50 models have been put on the assembly lines. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Anton Alikhanov.

"For many, the identification of the entire industry with AvtoVAZ remains a familiar pattern — of course, this is one of our key enterprises with the most significant production volumes. But I would like to point out that cars of more than 20 brands are produced in our country in the passenger segment alone. There are more than 50 models on our own assembly lines: sedans, crossovers, high-speed cars, pickups," TASS quoted Alikhanov as saying on September 30.

The minister noted that only this year in Russia the production of the new Lada Iskra, the Sollers SP7 minivan, models of the Russian brand Tenet, as well as hybrid cars of the Voyah brand began. The launch of the Atom electric car is also planned by the end of the year.

Alikhanov also noted that the factories that resumed production of cars after the departure of foreign investors increased their output by one and a half times in 2024 compared to 2023, the production volume exceeded 142 thousand cars.

In addition, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade pointed out that almost all the car factories abandoned by foreign investors are now operating. They operate under the leadership of Russian investors, who, together with partners from friendly countries, have also committed to deepening localization. The goals of developing our own car production in various segments are outlined in the strategy for the development of the automotive industry until 2035, he recalled.

In August 2025, 37.5 thousand passenger cars were produced in Russia, which is 27.4% less than a year ago. In just eight months of this year, 420 thousand passenger cars rolled off Russian assembly lines, which is 2.9% less year-on-year.

Earlier, on September 25, Sergey Tselikov, head of Autostat, estimated that in 2025 five new car brands appeared on the Russian market: Avatr, Rox, KGM, Tenet and Exlantix.
