Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog made it clear on September 29 that he could pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the corruption trial, saying that "this case puts a lot of pressure on Israeli society."

"The Netanyahu case is weighing heavily on Israeli society. If a request is received or any process is initiated, I will inform the public about it with full transparency. I will take into account all considerations that will be useful for the state," The Times of Israel newspaper quoted Herzog as saying.

The publication noted that Netanyahu regularly appears before the court. He is charged with fraud, breach of trust and bribery. Netanyahu denies any wrongdoing and claims that all the charges were "fabricated during a political coup led by the police and the state Prosecutor's office."

In 2019, it became known that the wife of the Prime Minister of Israel, Sarah Netanyahu, was found guilty of improper use of state funds and ordered to pay a fine of 55 thousand shekels (at that time $ 15.2 thousand) for illegal use of catering services. The bribery case against Sarah Netanyahu began in October 2018.

In February 2019, Israeli Prosecutor General Avichai Mendelblit announced his intention to bring charges against Netanyahu based on an investigation that has been underway for more than three years. The Israeli prime minister was suspected of bribing the media and receiving gifts from businessmen in exchange for patronage. Netanyahu himself has repeatedly denied involvement in corruption and called the accusations a witch hunt. US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday, June 25, that Netanyahu's trial should be canceled.

On June 27, 2025, the court rejected Netanyahu's request to be excused from testifying in the corruption case. It was emphasized that the request submitted by Netanyahu's lawyer was not the basis for canceling the evidentiary hearing.
